Strategic HRM simply means enhancing the performance of the Company to be aligned with the Business Objectives or to achieve the Company goals. Strategic Human Resources is vital part in HRM where the HR Managers need to deal with different situations which can be emergencies such as the
outbreak which happened with Corona Virus worldwide.
The safety of the employees becomes the main consideration while ensuring the productivity of the Companies. More the precautions are being taken more the safety is enhanced. The precautions taken cannot disturb the daily processors of a company neither close down the operations. How can the HR Manager use strategic HRM to deal with this process? During usual operations the main task in Strategic HRM is to design strategies to enhance performance levels. But in outbreaks as such as the main point which HR Manager need to identify is
that the mental levels of the employees are different and more the situation becomes epidemic, more the panic will cause among the staff.
The employees need to felt that the Company takes every measure to safeguard their lives. The trust which the employees have towards the Management is important to face this type of situations.
Every decision taken by the management should be transparent and people friendly to cause unnecessary chaos. The precautions and decisions vary from sector to sector where each part need to identify the best practices to their own Company.
My attention is drawn to few things which can be taken by HR Managers from various sectors to face the epidemic outbreaks worldwide.
The IT sector can provide “Work from Home”, as working from a remote location does not affect their productivity. To enhance the Work from Home the processors can be more streamlined with mandatory updates on the allocated tasks.
The Production sector need to focus on safety measures. The mode transmission of the disease need to be identified and every mode need to give careful consideration. Every employee need to tested with the symptoms on daily basis and entry to the premises need to prohibited.
